Yorkshire
Pianos carries out in-house restoration and rebuilds of prestigious marques
of pianos. These include:
Bechstein, Beulhoff, Bluthner, Bosendorfer, Cramer, Crowley, Marshall & Rose,
Rosler, Schiedmayer, Schimmel, Steck, Steinway, Weber and others
Pianos
have a very long working life, they literally last a lifetime. However, they
do not last forever! Also, unlike violins and certain other instruments
they do not improve with age. Quite the contrary, pianos are at their best
when new, as they get older they become less responsive, less reliable and
less valuable.
Many "old" pianos can be a hundred years old and are, quite simply,
past their sell-by date, they have no actual value. They are "more ornament
than instrument" as the saying goes.
However pianos can be rebuilt. It's important to draw the distinction between
reconditioning (which is what is done by a piano shop do a piano of,say,
30 years of age) and rebuilding which is complete wholesale replacement of
major
parts many of which can only be done in a piano factory.
It costs the same to rebuild a modest upright as it does to rebuild a prestigious
make of grand piano. For this reason we only rebuild Steinway, Bechstein,
Bosendorfer and Bluthner grands of a very desirable vintage.
The rebuilding process is long and involved and is intended not to create
a piano similar in appearance, touch and sound to a new piano but rather
to rebuild
a grand to its original, individual character. Many customers are surprised
how different a period piano sounds to a modern piano. We celebrate this
difference and pride ourselves on supplying rebuilt grand pianos with their
integrity
and character intact.
Superb musician's instrument
As can be seen in the photos, this piano has been totally rebuilt. A new
pin block renders the piano suitable for centrally heated homes and ready
for another 90 years service!
Beautifully repolished and rebuilt to exacting standards to the touch and
tone of a period instrument (it has not been souped-up to resemble a modern
Steinway as so often happens!).
A relatively light action and delicate treble with a full but never strident
or overpowering bass.
